Just to let you know:
All of my work is recorded and lodged with the Australian Taxation Office via my accountant.
From time to time, I am asked by potential, new or returning clients if I will accept “cash in hand”.
THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS NO, I do not accept “cash in hand”.
I won’t under any circumstances break the law and jeopardise my business and family income.
By asking to pay “cash in hand” (especially after you have agreed on the price of the work, the project is finished and I have delivered it) you are inadvertently undervaluing my skills, my craftsmanship and expertise, yet expecting a professionally finished project. It is insulting, disrespectful to our working relationship and puts me in an awkward position.
I always shop around for the best prices to keep your project as cost effective as possible while not compromising on the quality of the materials. There is no margin for a “discounted price”.
Thank you for valuing craftsmanship. I’m sorry I even have to mention this because I know it only applies to a very, very, very small percentage of clients who may ask and who probably don’t even realise how insulting it is.
Until next time,
Michael
