Hello,
My first project for 2025 was this Tasmanian Oak timber seat.
Made for returning clients, they have an Italian design book and commissioned me to make the seat.
(The seat was place outside briefly for these photographs.)
The clients sent through the plans.
We discussed the timber to be used. I suggested Tasmanian Oak as it is a great timber not only to work with but for longevity and strength with a seat like this.
I sent an estimate.
The clients agreed with the price. They transferred a deposit.
I kept them up to date with a start and completion time.
After the seat was complete, I sent these photos.
A mutual time was agreed on for collection in the Huon Valley.
The remaining amount was transferred to my bank account at collection.
All communication is done via email, this avoids confusion and everything is in writing for both the client and myself to refer to. I’ve found this a very easy, stress free way to work. Phone calls can be hard to coordinate, especially when I am on site or measuring/working and the client also has work or family commitments. Emails take the pressure and stress away and you can send further emails if you have questions/information and I’ll return the email asap.
Here are some other outdoor projects. Client designs.
The carpentry work I do (both indoor and outdoor) is usually as cost effective as an off the shelf, mass produced, imported, factory made item.
Craftsmanship, using quality local materials, working together respectfully, making something to your specific design and measurements; these are things that a mass produced item doesn’t have.
I prefer to use Tasmanian and Australian sustainably sourced timbers and have very good long standing relationships with my building suppliers. I shop around and compare prices to keep your project as cost effective as possible.
While a lot of my work could be described as more traditional or classic, my work does vary, including modern designs like this first project of the year. The next project I am working on is doors and a bathroom vanity for a return client.
I am really happy to work with your designs together with my 30+ years of carpentry knowledge and experience.
Until next time,
Michael
